About the line

What pre-cut carton sealing tape strips is for

Pre-cut strips skip the gun and the scissors. Each strip is already 24 inches long, enough for the center seam of a small or medium box with some left over for the sides, and the pack holds 100.

They suit a home office or a market stall where a few boxes go out a week and a tape gun would sit in a drawer.

Best for

  • A few boxes a week
  • Envelopes and small mailers
  • Packing away from a desk

Look elsewhere if

  • More than a handful of boxes a day: a roll and a gun is cheaper per box
  • Boxes longer than about 20 inches

What buyers say

Like how it is strong and precut.

These precut tape strips are really convenient and save time when sealing boxes. The adhesive is strong and holds securely without needing extra layers, and the clear tape looks neat and professional. I like not having to deal with a tape dispenser, and just peel and stick, and you’re done. They’ve worked well for shipping and moving boxes and feel reliable for heavier packages. Overall, a simple but very useful packing supply that does exactly what it should.

Save yourself the trouble and invest in a roll of tape (it's cheaper)

At first blush, these pre-cut tape strips seem very convenient. In fact, that's the thing that enticed me to order them. Just doing the math in my head, 100 18-inch strips is 50 yards of 2" tape, so it seemed like a decent value. The fact of the matter is that you'd do better skipping these and going with a simple roll of packing tape and a tape gun. Yes, you can cut these strips down to smaller pieces when necessary. Yes, the tape is thick and sticky enough to hold a cardboard box together. But, you are paying extra for convenience, and I could make some arguments about how these aren't very convenient at all. I found it to be a little tricky to get the tape exactly where I wanted it once I got the backing off. Once you get your box sealed, you'll be left with a ton of that paper backing to throw away. Don't get me wrong, I'll use it up until it's gone because I have it, but I can't recommend it in good conscience when there are more cost effective and less wasteful ways to tape a box.

Nope. Way too much paper waste and time wasted peeling the paper from both sides.

I thought that I'd try this because I sell figurines that I make and use a good amount of clear packing tape. This stuff is not quite as handy as I had hoped. First, you're stuck with 12 inch lengths. Sure you can cut them small if needed. Not a huge deal but...More importantly is the mess you end up with. There are TWO layers of paper that you have to peel off by the time you are done. One on the sticky side and yet another on the non-sticky side. My wife sent out a fairly small package and you can see the mess of paper that was left in the photo. Weird. The tape IS fairly heavy. That's about the only good thing I can report. So I'm not so sure this stuff is cost effective either from a cost per square inch or for the labor to deal with all that waste and time peeling.

The Perfect Tape for People Like Me That Struggle with Tape Guns

This tape is a breath of fresh air. I have to pack and ship packages a few times a week and I've tried every tape gun imaginable and all of them either jam up or won't cut when I need them too. This waste time and tape and it frustrates me more than it probably should. I gave this tape a try and oh my goodness what a difference it makes. I just have to peel the tape off of a pre cut sheet and slap it on the box. I'm able to control how the tape is applied so it goes on perfectly 100% of the time which means my packages are both more secure and they look much cleaner. The tape itself adheres to the boxes just as strongly as any packing tape I've ever used, so once it's on the box it's not coming off. I love this tape and I look forward to using it for all my packages going forward and never using a tape gun again.

Good Alternative to Struggling with Tape Rolls

If you find you struggle with using packing tape on rolls, then these precut tape strips are a good alternative that are easy to apply, have good thickness and great adhesion once applied. However, they are a pricey compared to tape on a roll, and while you can cut them shorter, you are stuck with a fixed length. The backing is split down the middle, so I peel off half of it, stick it to one box flap then peel of the other half of the backing and apply to the opposite side flap to seal the package.
